It's been decades since legendary groups like the Mahavishnu Orchestra, Return To Forever or Weather Report inspired a whole generation of musicians with their groovy, energetic compositions. Today only a few bands cavort in this genre. Bremen composer and keyboarder Michael Schmidt, aka MSM Schmidt, has been feeding the fusion flame for 15 years with titles that are as fresh as they are atmospheric. The insurance salesman indulges in an exclusive hobby. Again and again he manages to lure the cream of the US fusion scene into the studio for the recording of his compositions. On "Life", meanwhile his sixth album, he managed to do this again in an impressive way. With names like Allan Holdsworth and Oz Noy (guitar), Virgil Donati, Dave Weckl, Gary Novak (drums), Jerry Goodman (violin), Mitch Forman (keyboards) or Jimmy Haslip (bass), who also produced the album.
