about

Expectant quarantine - expected quarantine. The title of the live album by the Christof Singer Trio gives an insight into the state of mind many musicians find themselves in during the corona pandemic. The constant hope of relaxation and the associated opportunities to appear - and the disappointment when it becomes clear once again that there will be no relaxation for the cultural scene. A rollercoaster of emotions that gnaws at your nerves. “You run the risk of falling into ever deeper resignation,” says Christof Sänger, looking back over the past year and a half. The Wiesbaden pianist tried to use the difficult time creatively. By composing new pieces and experimenting with alternative concert formats.
At the end of March 2021 he was a guest with Rudi Engel (double bass) and Tobias Schirmer (drums) in the Darmstadt “sound & more” studio to play a 90-minute concert that was streamed live online. In their luggage the trio had their tried and tested mix of standards and original compositions from the pen of the band leader. There was no setlist in the true sense of the word. “We've been playing together for so long that it doesn't take many words. It just works, ”says Sänger, describing the ensemble's interplay, which runs precisely and synchronously like a Swiss clock.
Christof Sänger will receive the Hessian Jazz Prize in September 2021, the jury of the Hessian Jazz Prize honored the singer with “piano art at the highest level” in their laudation.
